Even if you aren&#039;t a developer it ought to be on the machine.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;2.  OK this is obvious but you didn&#039;t list XCode.   &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;3.  I have mixed feelings about Eclipse but I do like it for Python development.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;4.  Installing one of the Tex distros is nice if you need that sort of documetation.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I&#039;m on my iPhone at the moment so I can&#039;t say what else might be useful.   To play around I do have GNU Smalltalk running with GMP support.   It actually comes in handy from time to time. 		<description>Hey dave, thanks for the additions! I&#039;m a big user of vim as well, not a fan of macvim though. I missed Xcode probably because i installed it without thought. It&#039;s necessary for compiling misc apps.
